There is one thing that I would add to this guide and in my opinion is the single best AV tool that you can add to your tool kit.
There are some very good scanners (Malwarebytes, SUPERAntiSpyware, VIPRE, NOD32) but VIPRERescue is unique in that it can be run from a USB drive or CD in Windows Safe Mode Command Prompt.
There are times when you cannot install any of your tools because the virus blocks any attempt to install or run them. If you boot to Windows Safe Mode Command Prompt, you can run VIPRERescue and clean the computer enough so that you can then install your normal AV tools to clean it the rest of the way.
